Svalbard-

Jan Mayen

-Greenland* -Iceland

A rare chance to set foot in places few have ever reached. We set sail from Spitsbergen, planning to anchor along the way — and, if we’re fortunate, even secure permission to land on the remote, off‑limits volcanic island of Jan Mayen.
From there, depending on the weather and ice conditions, we’ll push either toward the shores of Greenland or sail straight to Iceland.
We’ll be voyaging at the height of the Arctic summer. Two possible routes — though in the end, it’s the weather and the ice that will decide our course.

Day 1
Embarkation
Welcome in Arctic!
Welcome to Longyearbyen — the capital of Svalbard. A dynamic start awaits: provisioning the yacht, final preparations, and maybe a moment to take in the surroundings — a place where polar bears outnumber people…
Day 2-6
470 NM/ 96 hours of sailing
Jan Mayen

We set course for Jan Mayen — a remote island crowned by Beerenberg, Europe’s second-highest active volcano(2,277m). With no permanent residents, the island is inhabited only by a small team from a research station and military communications units.
Protected by royal decree as a nature reserve, landing here is strictly limited and requires special permission — which we’ll attempt to secure. The last time we made it ashore was in 2018. It was well worth the effort.

Day 7-9
270 NM/ 48 hours of sailing
Ittoqqortoormiit**

One of the most remote permanent settlements in the world, home to around 360 Inuit. Apart from air access, the only way to reach it is by sea — and even that is possible for just a brief three-month window each summer. We’ll be there at the very start of this period, so there’s a chance — though nothing is guaranteed.
Some years we’ve made it as early as late June; last season, we only managed to get in at the beginning of August…

**If the ice blocks our way, we’ll set course directly for Iceland. This destination will only be attempted if conditions are right.

Day 9-13
270NM/ 48 hours of sailing
Westfjords

Depending on what Greenland has in store for us, we may find ourselves with extra time in Iceland — perfect for slow exploration of the beautiful Westfjords, with fresh cod straight from the sea as much as we can eat.

Day 14
Disembarkation
Ísafjörður

This is where our sea adventure comes to an end. After a journey like this, there’s nothing quite like spending a little time back on solid ground.

Day 15-16
Exploring ashore
Iceland- return to Reykjavik
With breathtaking scenery and plenty of onshore highlights along the way, we’ll happily turn the return journey into a two-day adventure.

The itineary outlines one possible route. The final course will be determined by weather conditions.

Trekkings

We’re likely to encounter moments like this more than once. At this time of year, Arctic weather can shift in minutes — from bright sunshine to a sudden snow squall. For gentler terrain, we’ll also have snowshoes with us.

Wild animals

Whales will be the most elusive. Deeper in Scoresby Sund, you might come across musk oxen, ptarmigan, and even polar bears. Take a look at the 2025 gallery below — what do you think was the easiest to “capture”

Fishing

Why not try your hand at fishing? The early days of the voyage are the perfect time and place.

Icebergs and pack ice

Glinding past towering icebergs and navigating through pack ice is part of the adventure.
